"Let Us Beat Our Swords into Ploughshares"

‘A Harvest of
righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace’. This part of the
reading from St James letter summed
up a lot of what was discussed and thought about at this week’s remembrance
service. Our thoughts focussed on how we learn from the past in remembering.
And thinking about how we live out Christ’s way showing commitment to peace and
hope for the future.
Christ’s peace is not
just about a state of no war, but it’s a way of life, a life of righteousness
and justice and of healing. Where people are allowed to be who or what they are
without fear of hatred or persecution, where people are loved and cared for for
their uniqueness.
It’s easy for
minorities to be stereotyped and persecuted, but we need to stand up and be
counted. As Christians it is our duty to be advocates for the oppressed,
difficult though this is at times, but we must learn from history, and if we do
not seek a world where justice and love reigns then the death of millions
across the years will have been in vain.
